What is TruckSafe?
TruckSafe is a not-for-profit industry focused business and risk management system that is aimed at improving the safety and professionalism of trucking operators across Australia:

TruckSafe was set up in 1996 in response to government concerns over what the road transport industry was doing about improving safety.
Developing and implementing practices in accordance with the 2024 TruckSafe SMS can assist organisations to identify and manage their heavy vehicle supply chain risks, as required by the Chain of Responsibility (CoR) laws.
For clients, TruckSafe provides confidence that the organisation has a system in place for identifying and managing heavy vehicle supply chain risks to meet their transport needs.
One of the biggest advantages of being a certified member of TruckSafe is that our members are externally audited by a third party. These external audits can be used as evidence to demonstrate compliance with the TruckSafe SMS which, in turn, can be used if needed in any regulatory investigation or court prosecution as evidence of the identification, assessment and management of heavy vehicle supply chain risks as required under the CoR laws (within the Heavy Vehicle National Law) and the Master Code.

Become a member
Visit the Become a member page and use the online application form to become a TruckSafe member.
Being a TruckSafe member gives you access to a wealth of resources to assist with planning, creating, implementing, and maintaining your TruckSafe CoR safety management system (SMS).
Access the learning platform
Visit sms.trucksafe.com.au to get in depth information on how to create your TruckSafe SMS.
Building your SMS isn’t about reinventing the wheel! Our Learning SMS website allows you to explore valuable information about TruckSafe’s SMS elements, find important CoR SMS resources and identify
resources you need.
Analyse your system
Conduct a gap analysis of your systems.
Now you are armed with the knowledge gathered from the Learning SMS website it’s time to complete a gap analysis of your safety systems. Use the form we have available for members to go through your existing systems to find and record any gaps you have.
Use the Member Access portal
With your gap analysis complete, it’s time to head on over the Member Access portal.
From here you can download everything you need to fill the gaps in your TruckSafe SMS. Other tools and services are available to you, including our Member Benefits program, a list of GP clinics for driver and staff medicals, and other health services that is constantly growing.
Create your system (SMS)
Create your TruckSafe SMS and implement it into your business.
After downloading the materials you need, put your SMS together, updating your existing policies, procedures, processes and forms or add new ones before testing and implementing them into the day-to-day activities of your business.
Request an audit
Request an audit and have it approved.
Once you are confident that your systems meet the requirements of the TruckSafe SMS and are working as expected, complete the online audit request form to advise us you are ready for audit. We will perform some checks and if everything is in order, we will approve your audit.
Complete your audit
Complete your audit and have it assessed.
Your chosen auditor (if approved) will visit your business and complete your TruckSafe SMS audit. They will advise if your systems have any weaknesses or parts missing and request that you fix them before they
finalise your audit and hand it to us. We will then assess your entry audit and if everything is in order, issue you with a provisional certificate.
Promote your certification
Congratulations you are now certified to the 2024 TruckSafe SMS .
With your provisional certificate, you can proudly promote your business as being amongst the safest in the road transport industry and give your customers and supply chain partners the confidence that you are
actively taking steps to eliminate or minimise your CoR risks in the workplace.
Complete your second audit
When your certificate is close to expiring, request another audit to continue your certification.
Around six months after your provisional certificate is issued, you will need to complete an ongoing audit. Our independent expert panel will then make an assessment, and if satisfied will issue you with a certificate for full certification for up to 17 months.
Successive certificates issued after an external ongoing audit will be up to 24 months in length. We will let you know when your audit is due well in advance to ensure you have arranged to obtain a new certificate
before your current one expires.
